The title of this might better be "SOME of what I learned about discovery with regard to health"... but that'd be too long. I couldn't possibly include everything I've learned about health in this blog... and I don't think you've got the time to scroll through it all.
Instead of making a list of all the things I've discovered about health, I actually wanted to share how muchwhat I know about health has come from discovery!
In March of 2015, Ryan and I started our health business. At that time, though, I was finishing up my graduate degree, leading a youth ministry, and planning our wedding. It wasn't exactly the ideal time to get a business up and running. So instead of diving straight into the business, we decided to learn about nutrition, to work on our own habits, and start strong in September.
Between March and September, I learned so much about our food supply (1), nutrition as medicine (2), and degenerative disease through books, documentaries (3), and webinars. I did not have a frame of reference for these topics before hand. Starting a wellness business placed me on a health journey that led me to SEARCH for more.
I've certainly always had a desire to be healthy. I want to live long. I want to have energy. But I had no idea that some of my habits could seriously hinder those desires, nor that there were very simple life changes I could make to prevent disease and live a healthier life. These were things I discovered!
I discovered that I can actually enjoy veggies and fruits as satiating snacks... that my cravings can shift from only wanting sweets, buttered bread, and fatty meats. I found out that I can push my physical limits beyond the gym routine I'd done for years... to be able to lift more, go longer, and run faster than I have in who knows how long.
I sure didn't...
Until I tried.
Until I DISCOVERED I can do better. I can go farther.
I also discovered how much there is to learn about my own body and how I feel physically. In hearing how we're made to feel on a regular basis, with energy, strength, and without digestive discomfort, fatigue, and stress, I've become more intentional about thinking through how I feel after meals, when I wake up, or even after talking with certain people.
I'm finding that there is so much that goes into how we feel and experience life mentally and interpersonally that effects us physically and vice versa. There are all kinds of studies that are showing longer lives and lower cases of disease are results of being in community and being a forgiving person!
This has sparked a new excitement in me!My passions for God and His Kingdom are crashing into my discoveries of health!
The things that I have learned about what God has provided everyone in relationship with Him, in authentic community with fellow believers, and in becoming more loving and forgiving lines up so beautifully with scientific research and studies on how these lifestyle dynamics affect our physical well being.
On the flipside, eating healthier, getting the nutrients we need, and being active have huge impacts on our relationships, self-worth, mental state, and so much more.
It makes sense that all these things would be tied together; that a God of love and profound wisdom would MAKE us in such a way that every aspect of our lives contributes towards our overall well being.
Of course the plants that He artfully created would be the best sources of nutrients.
Why wouldn't laughing with a close group of friends increase physical, mental, and emotional health?
He's so good.
My discoveries from 2015 regarding health have meshed with my values and passions regarding what I feel we are MADE for as recipients of God's love. And now, moving into 2016, I am ecstatic to consider how I can encourage, support, and inspire others to live life to the fullest!
This time last year, I never thought I'd be building up a business. I thought that after finishing my degree it'd be years before I go back to school, if I even went back at all. I didn't know how I'd be able to fund a church plant or live out the things that have been placed on my heart to give.
Yet, here I am...
Building a business.
Going to school to learn about nutrition.
Discovering the open doors to living out my calling.
With all that said, my point is...DISCOVERY can be an excellent way to better health and overall well being in our lives.
What have you discovered in 2015?
Where will you journey in 2016?
I bet you'll be surprised at how much you've found!
I'd love to hear your answers! Send me an email, share this blog with your experience. Let's encourage as many as we can!
