I care about my health and the health of others because I truly believe that each person is valuable and has a unique calling that no one else can fulfill the way they can.
I’ve been reading and rereading Romans 12.
It starts off by saying a verse, I’m sure you’ve heard many times, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true worship.”
I love that it says, “in view of God’s MERCY”. I think the idea of ensuring my body is good enough for God, without understanding His mercy and grace, it’d lead to a pretty shame based system.
I find it interesting that the next verse doesn’t go into what to eat or how to move, but rather a warning not to be like the world and an encouragement to be transformed in your mind.
It’s as if a body committed to worshipping God is a body led by a transformed mind.
Verses 3-8 then goes on to talk about the BODY of Christ and how there are many members with unique roles.
What a great progression after emphasizing the importance of a surrendered body.
Verses 9-21 include a great series of encouragements for living a loving life as a member of that Body.
My personal encouragement for you today is to believe what’s true about you - that you are valuable, that you have a purpose, and that your health directly impacts your experience of the life you’ve been given.
In light of God’s mercy & love, take hold of God’s grace and partner with Him in creating that sustainable healthy lifestyle - a lifestyle that offers your body fully to God and His purposes!
